Virodhi is an upcoming Telugu film which is Srikanth’s 103th film. G. Neelakanta Reddy, the director and screenwriter of the Virodhi.
The film directed by G. Neelakanta Reddy stars Srikanth, Kamalinee Mukherjee, Ajay. The Music is scored by R.P.Patnaik.
Plot
Virodhi is being made with a backdrop of Naxalism and most part of the film was shot in forests near Gangavathi in Karnataka and Vikarabad. Srikanth is playing the role of a journalist in the film and Kamal Kamaraju and Kamalinee Mukherjee will be seen in other important roles.
Jayadev (Srikanth) is an honest and sincere journalist, who digs out scams carried out by political leader and MP, Jangayya (Ahuti Prasad). After the exposé, the shattered politician tries to bribe the journalist. But the honest Jayadev refuses the bribe. A group of Naxals, lead by Gogi (Ajay) attack and kill the MP and take Jayadev as their hostage. The story picks up from here, with the director exploring the good and bad side of the Naxal movement with each character. The journalist plays an important part in the journey.
Unlike in his other films, Neelakantha stays away from twists and turns in “Virodhi”. The narration is straightforward and gains momentum in the second half. Neelakantha should get credit for chalking out such emotionally complex characters and extracting good performances from the actors. The emotions speak more than the dialogues. He manages to handle a sensitive subject very cleverly without taking any stance, managing to remain neutral.
When it comes to performance, you can’t single out anyone since all the actors did a commendable job. Srikanth, who is known for doing only family-oriented films, impresses with his subdued performance. It’s one of his best performances ever. Ajay, who played the Naxal leader, shows much promise. Kamal Kamaraju fits his role well. Shivaji Raja, Kiran Varanasi, Ravi Varma, Sri Ramya and others’ performances are noteworthy. Kamalinee too does justice to her cameo role.
