Rise of the Planet of the Apes (originally titled Caesar and Rise of the Apes) is a 2011 American science fiction film. The film is directed by Rupert Wyatt. It is a reboot of the Planet of the Apes series that will act as a foundation with an origin story for a new film series. Its premise is similar to the fourth film in the original series Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972), but it is not a direct remake in that it does not fit into that series’ continuity. It was released in the United States and Canada on August 5, 2011
Plot
Will Rodman (James Franco) is a scientist, currently residing in San Francisco, who is working on a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease by performing tests on apes. Rodman’s “cure” is a virus that not only repairs brain cells, but genetically modifies the chimpanzees, giving them a human level of intelligence. One of his test subjects is Bright Eyes, a female chimpanzee, who gives birth to a baby chimpanzee named Caesar (Andy Serkis). Steven Jacobs (David Oyelowo) orders all the test chimpanzees put down after the female chimpanzee escapes and disrupts a board meeting, but Robert Franklin (Tyler Labine), the subordinate responsible for carrying out this order, cannot bring himself to kill the chimpanzee’s baby, and instead gives it to Will, who raises it in his house.Caesar turns out to have inherited his mother’s high intelligence, and learns unbelievably well, but after attacking a neighbour who threatened Will’s father (John Lithgow), who is suffering from Alzheimer’s, he is forced to leave Will’s house and is held in a primate facility in San Bruno. Rodman creates a new cure to further cure his father and new tests on chimps begin. It strengthens the intelligence of the apes, but is fatal to humans. Franklin is exposed to the new virus and later on dies in his apartment.
Caesar eventually escapes from his cage and releases an airborne-strain of the virus that enhances the intelligence of his fellow apes. He becomes capable of speech, his first word being “NO”, and the apes successfully defeat their sadistic captor Dodge Landon(Felton) allowing them to escape the primate facility. Caesar then releases the remaining apes from Will’s research institute and San Francisco Zoo, and successfully leads an escape through the streets of San Francisco. After an epic battle against the police on Golden Gate Bridge, they make it away from the city and into the Muir Woods National Monument forest. Will warns Caesar that humanity is strong and he will be safe at home. Caesar, now capable of many human factors informs Will “Caesar is home” and ensures Rodman will be safe from the mass army of apes. Meanwhile, a mid-credit scene reveals that Rodman’s neighbor has been infected with the virus and has a career as a pilot. As he walks into the airport, a timetable is zoomed into a flight to New York, implying a global pandemic is in the works.

Jamie Harris as RodneyJames Franco was cast after talks with Tobey Maguire broke down. Freida Pinto and John Lithgow joined the cast on June 22, 2010. Tom Felton will also star as the human character Dodge Landon. As of July 12, 2010, Brian Cox was in final negotiations to join the cast. According to his Twitter page, David Hewlett has also joined the cast, though he had not mentioned what his role in the film would be at that time. Canadian actress Chelah Horsdal will also star as Irena.
